Ahmedabad, May 12 (ANI): Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a dramatic batting collapse as Gujarat Titans cruised to a commanding 82-run victory in their IPL 2026 encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. After restricting the Titans to 168/5 with disciplined bowling, SRH were bowled out for just 86 runs in 14.5 overs, as Gujarat’s pace attack tore through the lineup.
With this win, Gujarat climbed to the top of the points table with 16 points, while Sunrisers Hyderabad dropped to third with 14 points. The 86-run total was SRH’s lowest all-out score in IPL history and the second-lowest against Gujarat Titans, behind Lucknow Super Giants’ 82 at Pune in 2022. It also marked Gujarat’s biggest victory margin by runs, surpassing their earlier 77-run win over Rajasthan Royals this season. Additionally, this was the first time since 2024 that SRH failed to chase a sub-200 target. The Titans’ seamers claimed nine wickets in an IPL innings for the second time, the previous instance being against the same opposition in Hyderabad in 2023. Gujarat extended their winning streak over SRH to six matches in seven completed games, including four victories in Ahmedabad.
Chasing 169, SRH got off to a disastrous start. Travis Head was dismissed for a duck off the first ball by Mohammed Siraj. Kagiso Rabada struck next over, removing Abhishek Sharma for six. Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan fell for 17 in the fourth over, and Rabada claimed his third wicket in the sixth over, dismissing Smaran Ravichandran for nine. At the end of the powerplay, SRH were reeling at 34/4.
Salil Arora and Heinrich Klaasen attempted to rebuild, taking SRH to 54/4 after nine overs. However, Prasidh Krishna broke the partnership in the 10th over, dismissing Arora for 16, leaving SRH at 56/5. Jason Holder then struck twice in the next over, removing Klaasen (14) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (2) to reduce SRH to 60/7. Holder claimed his third wicket in the 13th over, dismissing Shivang Kumar for four. Prasidh Krishna then removed captain Pat Cummins for 19, and Rashid Khan took the final wicket of Praful Hinge (3) as SRH were bowled out for 86.
Gujarat’s bowling was led by Rabada (3/28) and Holder (3/20), with Prasidh Krishna taking 2/23, Siraj 1/11, and Rashid 1/3.
Earlier, Hyderabad’s pacers Sakib Hussain, Praful Hinge, and skipper Pat Cummins restricted Gujarat to 168/5. Hussain and Hinge took two wickets each, while Cummins chipped in with one. Batting first, Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill opened for Gujarat, but Hinge dismissed Gill for five and later removed Jos Buttler for seven. Nishant Sindhu hit a six but fell to Cummins for a quick cameo. Sudharsan and Washington Sundar then built a crucial partnership. Sudharsan scored 61 before being dismissed by Hussain, while Sundar slammed 18 runs off the 19th over, including two fours and a six off Malinga. He brought up his half-century but was dismissed by Hussain in the final over as GT finished at 168/5.
