The Levante women’s team has endured a disastrous season, culminating in a crushing 5-0 loss to league champions Barcelona that sealed their relegation from Spain’s top flight. This marks the first time in the club’s history that the team has dropped out of the Primera División.
With just two wins and two draws from 27 matches, the writing had been on the wall for some time. The inevitable fall to the second-tier Primera RFEF became a stark reality after an eighth consecutive defeat, with three games still remaining in the season.
Following the heavy loss in Barcelona, Levante UD Femenino released an official statement apologizing to fans and vowing to return stronger. The full statement reads:
“Today is a hard and painful day for us. Levante UD Femenino has been relegated. It hurts because of what this moment represents and everything behind it: years of effort, struggle, growth, and history; a legacy we built together.
“This club has been a pioneer of women’s football in Spain. We were among the first to believe, to invest, and to carve a path that is now part of our identity. Our DNA cannot be erased by a relegation. We come from two difficult seasons that do not reflect the work and ambition of this team, especially the last one. We suffered, we fought, but it was not enough, and we are sorry.
“We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. To the 125 season-ticket holders who were always there, to the more than 200 who supported us at the Ciudad Deportiva de Buñol match after match, and to those who filled the Ciutat de València against FC Barcelona or Costa Adeje Tenerife.
“This relegation does not define our history. It is time to face reality, to be self-critical, and to turn this sadness into a starting point to come back stronger. We will continue working to return this project to where it belongs, based on our history and our fanbase.
“There are three league games left, two of them at home. We will not give up: we will defend this badge and compete until the last minute out of respect for this shirt and for all of you.
“We will return. More united, stronger.”
