Paula Badosa has decided to skip Roland Garros, as the Spanish tennis player has withdrawn from the qualifying rounds of the tournament. This means she will miss the second Grand Slam of the season, although there remains a slim possibility she could still take part if several players withdraw before the draw or if she receives a late wild card—an unlikely scenario.

Badosa had already hinted at this decision weeks ago, explaining that she needed to take a break after a disappointing clay-court campaign. Those results have dropped her to No. 102 in the current rankings, and that number is expected to fall further as she will lose the 130 points she earned last year by reaching the third round.
“I don’t know if I’ll go, honestly. I’m being honest here, opening up. It depends a lot on whether I’ve regained that energy. I know that if I have that energy, things will eventually work out,” she said recently in a podcast, admitting she had hit rock bottom.
The choice is drastic because moving forward, she will have to go through qualifying rounds for all major tournaments until she can recover her form and climb back to a ranking more befitting her talent. For now, a comeback seems distant, as the Spanish star has decided to step away from tennis entirely for the time being.
