Moments after the final whistle of their clash with UD Almería, Burgos released an official statement voicing “deep concern and indignation over the refereeing performance they suffered,” while demanding “fairness, no favoritism, and consistent criteria in officiating decisions.” The statement was followed by comments on social media from club president Marcelo Figoli, who wrote: “We have been very respectful until now. I believe you cannot play with the effort and hopes of so many people.” He later added that the team felt “very hard done by, but our hopes remain intact.”
Coach Ramis also complained after the match, saying: “Throughout the season, no situation has gone in our favor. I’m worried—I said it a long time ago.”
The club wants to move on but has made clear its displeasure over the failure to award a penalty for a handball inside the box by Bonini. The VAR had called referee Lax Franco to review the incident after seeing the ball strike the Italian defender’s arm, but no spot-kick was given.
Burgos now turns its focus to the final stretch of the season, as they still have a chance to compete in the promotion playoffs. They currently sit two points behind Castellón, who occupy sixth place, with three matches left. The team will need to win their remaining fixtures: two away games against Granada and Cultural Leonesa, followed by a home match at El Plantío against Andorra to close the regular season.
In a show of support, the club has made nearly 600 tickets available for their fans and subsidized 60% of the bus travel costs for supporters heading to Granada. The combined ticket and travel package costs €50. Burgos expects a strong backing from its fans at the Nuevo Los Cármenes stadium.
